Mountain biking
Dolffanog Fawr is situated right in the middle of some of the best mountain biking in Europe. There are four centres nearby; Coed y Brenin, Machynlleth, Nant yr Arian and Antur Stiniog.
Coed y Brenin
The first and arguably still the best mountain bike centre in the UK. The ever increasing network of trails offers something for everybody from the green and blue graded Yr Afon and Minotaur trails (the most popular trail in Europe) up to the fearsome Tarw and Beast trails.
The purpose built visitor centre offers hot drinks, snacks, main meals, bike hire and a fully equipped shop.
Morgan particularly loves falling off the Minotaur Trail!
Machynlleth / Dyfi
The old welsh capital is home to the Mach 1-2-3 trails which take your far out into the Mid-Wales wilderness and the nearby dyfi forest hosts the cli-machx trail – the ‘section 8’ downhill singletrack is not for the fainthearted!
We are all mountain bikers and will happily point out all the other ‘off-piste’ goodness littered around the forest.
Nant yr Arian
The Nant yr Arian forest sits high on the mountains just inland from Aberystwyth and offers stunning high level wilderness riding. With the trails heading out into the epic scenery of the Cambrian Mountains, this is a fantastic area for those who like their riding wild and rugged. Generally a much quieter location than Coed y Brenin.
There is also a visitor centre here that serves locally sourced meals and red kite feeding takes place every day.
Antur Stiniog
Opened in 2012 and located in the slate mining town of Bleanau Ffestiniog this centre is downhill and freeride heaven. Uplift is provide by a fleet of minibuses and trailers and the trails vary from blue to double black! A whole day of white knuckle descents without the need to pedal!
Dyfi Bike Park
Home to the bonkers Atherton Family and the training ground for many World Cup Racers. 650 acres of trails hand crafted by Dan Atherton in the heart of the Dyfi Forest. From the triple back diamond ‘Slab Track’ to the berms of ‘Super Swooper’ there is something for ‘almost’ everybody to explore.
